Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has done wonders for individuals who experience borderline personality disorder. There have also been attempts to apply DBT methods (e.g., strategies for emotion regulation or interpersonal effectiveness) to other difficulties clients experience.

This continuing education training utilizes dynamic interviews with experts with experience applying aspects of the modality to a range of difficulties. These difficulties include bipolar disorder, eating disorders, psychosis, trauma/PTSD, substance abuse, chronic pain, and with adolescents.

Pros: This continuing education training features multiple experienced therapists using DBT in interesting ways. These experts provide many helpful examples of concepts discussed. The price tag is also a great value for a whopping 8.0 CME/CE hours! Because hey – the cost of practicing ain’t no joke. This training also has a preliminary continuing education training for DBT essentials if you would like to first build up foundational knowledge of this approach.

Limits: A good knowledge of DBT is needed prior to this training. The structure of this training (a series of interviews) does not have as much of a didactic approach. This may be limiting for those wanting in-depth information on fundamental concepts. Research has established this type of therapy to be effective for borderline personality disorder, but there is much less support for application to the conditions this training discusses.

This training can provide an interesting application of DBT methods to a range of difficulties in a dynamic format.
